# Getting Started

> **⚠️ Important Safety Note**\
> Solana is a high-performance blockchain with fast transactions. Always DYOR thoroughly, start with small amounts when exploring new dApps or tokens, and never invest more than you can afford to lose. Be especially cautious of new or low-liquidity projects.

Solana offers extremely fast and low-cost transactions, making it an excellent environment for experimentation, DeFi, and NFTs. While your primary focus remains on WAX and the Pixel Journey ecosystem, Solana can serve as a valuable complementary chain for testing strategies, accessing different opportunities, and preparing for future PxPortals cross-chain capabilities.

## Why Explore Solana?

* Very low transaction fees and high speed
* Strong DeFi and NFT ecosystems
* Good tooling and growing institutional interest
* Useful for low-cost experimentation and strategy testing
* Future PxPortals integration may connect Solana more seamlessly with WAX and other chains

## Getting Started Safely

### 1. Set Up Your Wallet

**Phantom** is the most popular and user-friendly wallet for Solana. It offers excellent UX, strong security features, and broad dApp support. Many users also use **Solflare** or hardware wallet integration (Ledger) for larger holdings.

**Recommended Setup**

* Use **Phantom** (or Solflare) as your primary Solana wallet.
* Enable hardware wallet integration (Ledger) for larger holdings.

### 2. Acquire SOL (for gas)

You will need a small amount of SOL for transaction fees. You can bridge SOL from other chains or acquire it on exchanges.

**Tip**: Start with a very small amount (e.g., $5–10 worth) for testing.

### 3. Start Exploring Safely

* Begin with well-known dApps and marketplaces on Solana.
* Use trusted explorers (Solscan, SolanaFM) to verify transactions and contracts.
* Start with tiny test transactions and positions.
* Revoke token approvals regularly.

### 4. Security Best Practices on Solana

* Use hardware wallets for significant holdings.
* Double-check all contract addresses and dApp URLs.
* Be extra cautious of new or low-liquidity tokens and projects.
* Never share your seed phrase or private keys.
* Start small and verify everything.

## Pixel Journey Relevance

Solana is an excellent low-cost environment for testing DeFi mechanics, NFT trading, and different strategies that can later be applied on WAX or other chains. It serves as a valuable complementary testing ground while keeping your primary focus and capital on WAX collections, Pixals, and the PXJ economy.

Skills and habits learned on Solana transfer well and will become more valuable as PxPortals expands cross-chain capabilities.
