# EVM Ecosystem Guides

> **⚠️ Important Safety Note**\
> EVM chains vary widely in maturity, fees, and security. Always DYOR thoroughly, start with small amounts when exploring new chains or dApps, and never invest more than you can afford to lose. Be especially cautious on newer or low-liquidity chains.

The EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) ecosystem includes Ethereum mainnet and many Layer 2 and sidechains (Base, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, etc.). These chains offer different trade-offs in cost, speed, and security.

While your primary focus remains on WAX and the Pixel Journey ecosystem, EVM chains can serve as valuable complementary environments for testing strategies, accessing different opportunities, and preparing for future PxPortals cross-chain capabilities.

## Why Explore EVM Chains?

* Diverse DeFi and NFT ecosystems across multiple chains
* Varying fee structures (from very cheap L2s to more expensive mainnet)
* Strong tooling and institutional adoption on major chains
* Useful for low-cost experimentation on L2s
* Future PxPortals integration may connect EVM chains more seamlessly with WAX and other ecosystems

## General Recommendations

### Wallet

**MetaMask** is the most widely used and compatible wallet for EVM chains. It supports adding multiple networks easily and works with hardware wallets (Ledger). Many users also use **Rabby** or other modern EVM wallets for enhanced security features.

### Security Best Practices

* Use hardware wallets (Ledger) for significant holdings when possible.
* Start with very small test amounts on new chains or dApps.
* Verify all contract addresses and dApp URLs carefully.
* Revoke token approvals regularly.
* Be extra cautious on newer or low-liquidity chains and projects.

## Pixel Journey Relevance

EVM chains can be useful for low-cost experimentation with DeFi mechanics, NFT trading, and different economic models. Skills, security habits, and strategies learned here transfer well and will become more valuable as PxPortals expands cross-chain capabilities. Use EVM chains (especially low-fee L2s like Base) as a complementary testing ground — then bring useful insights back to your core WAX and Pixel Journey activities.

Keep your primary focus and capital on WAX collections, Pixals, and the PXJ economy.

## Getting Started Safely

1. Set up **MetaMask** (or another trusted EVM wallet) and add the desired network(s).
2. Acquire a small amount of the native gas token for the chain you're exploring.
3. Start with tiny test transactions and positions.
4. Use trusted explorers (e.g., Etherscan, Polygonscan, Basescan) to verify activity.
5. Apply the same rigorous security habits used on WAX and other chains.
