# Getting Started

> **⚠️ Important Safety Note**\
> XPR Network is a fast, low-cost Antelope-based chain with strong focus on payments and DeFi. Always DYOR thoroughly, start with small amounts when exploring new dApps or tokens, and never invest more than you can afford to lose.

XPR Network (formerly Proton) is a high-performance Antelope blockchain optimized for fast, low-cost transactions with a strong emphasis on user-friendly payments, DeFi, and real-world utility. It offers excellent UX and low fees, making it attractive for experimentation and certain types of activity.

## Why Explore XPR Network?

* Very low transaction fees
* Fast and user-friendly experience
* Strong focus on payments and DeFi
* Good tooling and growing ecosystem
* Useful for low-cost experimentation and strategy testing
* Future PxPortals integration may connect XPR more seamlessly with WAX and other chains

## Getting Started Safely

### 1. Set Up Your Wallet

**Anchor** is the most compatible and widely used wallet for XPR Network. It supports easy network management and hardware integration.

**Recommended Setup**

* Use **Anchor** as your primary wallet for XPR.
* Enable hardware wallet integration (Ledger) for larger holdings.
* Add the XPR Network to your wallet (official RPC details available on the XPR website).

### 2. Acquire XPR (for gas)

You will need a small amount of XPR for transaction fees. You can acquire it on supported exchanges or bridges.

**Tip**: Start with a very small amount (e.g., $5–10 worth) for testing.

### 3. Start Exploring Safely

* Begin with well-known dApps and marketplaces on XPR.
* Use trusted explorers to verify transactions and contracts.
* Start with tiny test transactions and positions.
* Revoke token approvals regularly.

### 4. Security Best Practices on XPR

* Use hardware wallets for significant holdings.
* Double-check all contract addresses and dApp URLs.
* Be extra cautious of new or low-liquidity tokens and projects.
* Never share your seed phrase or private keys.
* Start small and verify everything.

## Pixel Journey Relevance

XPR Network is an excellent low-cost environment for testing DeFi mechanics, payments, and different strategies that can later be applied on WAX or other chains. It serves as a valuable complementary testing ground while keeping your primary focus and capital on WAX collections, Pixals, and the PXJ economy.

Skills and habits learned on XPR transfer well and will become more valuable as PxPortals expands cross-chain capabilities.
